The short answer is, Yes. The majority of high schools today utilize Naviance. Naviance can give you a break down of the students from your school that have been accepted to a particular college and, the average GPA/test scores of those students. This information allows you to compare yourself, (as long as you know your GPA and test scores) to judge  your chances of being accepted. On the other hand, if your school does not use Naviance, you can use : www.collegedata.com. Although collegedata can not give you information about your school directly it can give you the overall picture of students accepted which will give you the same ability to judge your chances of acceptance.

For example, if you click on the first link below, you will be directed to the page which gives information for Rutgers University at collegedata.com.. If you scroll down the page and look at the bottom right side, a chart will come up that lists the % of students which applied, the average GPA of those students and, the average test scores. Armed with this information and, knowledge of your own GPA/test scores, you would now be able to judge if you had a good chance of acceptance or not. The second link is for collegenaviagtor.com which can also give you the same information different layout but, same information. Bottom line, no worries if your school does not use Naviance, there are other options.

Nothing is promised, nothing is sure but, this type of information lets you know if it is worth your while, to put an application in.

Good Luck!

Absolutely---some of my favorites include www.bigfuture.org, www.actstudent.org,www.diycollegerankings.com, http://college-insight.org/, www.unigo.com. There are also various books to look for from Peterson's, The College Board, Fiske Guides, The Guide to America's Best Colleges to name a few.
