No, it is not OK to submit an essay that is longer than required. The college admissions officer reading the essay may be led to think that the person did not follow directions regarding word length. I agree with the previous answers, it is time to revise, reword, and delete. It is always recommended to have someone in addition to the writer, proofread the essay for grammatical errors, incorrect usage, or spelling errors not detected by spell check.
